Before placing the new stripping first clean and dry the channel with a towel.
Fix door seal on car.
They may still retain a bit of mold release agent.
Apply adhesive to the back of the weather strip and the channel.
The simplest way to patch a gap is to use universal weather seal which can be purchased in rolls.
Start in one corner of the window making sure to match up the studs and lightly apply the adhesive to frame and strip.
If you pull hard to break the ice the weather stripping can tear right off the car door.
To take off the old weather stripping remove any screws holding the pieces in place and then tug away at the stripping as well as the underlying adhesive layer to remove it from the car applying adhesive remover if necessary.
In a couple of days or less it will be the original size and condition.
Push the rest of the stripping into place as you continue around the door frame continuing to apply adhesive as you go along.
If the gaps in your car door seals are actually torn but only in a small area you might want to consider a patch rather than replacing an entire seal.
Do not stretch the rubber as you go and be sure the corners are lined up properly.
Cut a piece of seal which is about 2cm longer than the gap which will have appeared where you cut the seal on your door.
Push the new piece of seal into the gap and hammer it into place with a rubber mallet if necessary.
Wipe off any extra silicone oil with a clean cloth and reinstall it.
Before cutting your dried seals remove the weaterstripping seal put it in a plastic bag and saturate it with spray silicone then seal the bag.
Water damage can occur to your interior necessitating the replacement of upholstery or other components.
In nearly every instance of leaking car door seals which you may notice in the form of rain making its way inside or an annoying whoosh of air through the car door.
When your car door seals leak it s more than just a passing nuisance.
Next wipe the weatherstripping channel and the new seals with a gentle cleanser and towel them dry.
The seal needs to be reconditioned.
