Set the field width knob on the wall transmitter at the minimum level to obtain a signal on the portable radio. Turn on the am radio turning the station to 530 khz. When the tone stops that may be the break. Turn off your dog fence transmitter.

Search the am stations until you have found the correct one. Do the same thing using the other wire. The wire breaks must be clean breaks. Based upon our extensive tests we have determined that this device only works well for fence systems with less than 500 feet of wire.

If the instructions are unavailable turn on a portable am radio near the fence transmitter. This product is not effective for finding partial or decaying breaks. Set a portable am radio to am 60 or am 600. What you are doing here is making a diy wire locator using a lawnmower as a transmitter a wire to connect the transmitter to the underground cable and the am radio to find where the wire is located.

Don t have a wire locator. This usually is an am frequency on the lower end of the spectrum. Hopefully the break will be in the same spot unless you have multiple breaks. With close to 2000 of wire i started on the end that seemed the most vulnerable i found the break about 150 from the opposite end where the kids buried a dead bird.

Save the 70 and make your own diy locator using an am radio. Plug in the sending unit so that both lights on the transmitter are lit. Connect your wire break locator to your twisted wire.
